      New York Library Initiative Proposal

 

 

New York’s Statewide Internet Library  

·      Invest in the State’s information infrastructure by funding a permanent Statewide Internet Library to serve higher education, research and development, business and industry, and students. A pilot project funded with federal dollars can be seen at www.novelnewyork.org.

Libraries and Systems: Partnerships that Build Capacity

 

·        Enable local libraries to benefit from cooperative ventures, including shared catalogs, collections, and cost effective technical services by continuing $8 million library system aid. In addition, a $3 million increase to all library programs ensures the $100 million total aid to libraries keeps pace with inflation.

·        Strengthen local accountability through training and support programs for governing boards and trustees.

Public Library Construction

·        Continue to repair library buildings and provide energy efficiency  and accessibility for people with disabilities with funding  for renovation and construction.

Growing Readers @ the Library: Raising Academic Outcomes

 

·        Promote school readiness by supporting cooperative early literacy programs (birth to age 5) for all youngsters.

·        Enable future academic success and increase literacy of school-age children and parents by expanding proven summer reading programs in libraries.

                                                         State Aid to Schools Proposal

 

School Library Materials Aid – Improve academic outcomes for students in high need districts and ensure that all students have access to up-to-date school libraries by increasing school library materials aid from $6.25 to $10.00 per pupil.
